People on the Streets: waiting

Well... everything is coming along well...  I’m sure we’ll be busy on Friday night (cooking all night)... and Saturday (serving/delivering by noon... and then clean up)... but really, so far, after a couple years of preparing 5000 + gifts and plates of food, this feels like a breeze...  We feel like we should be doing more – but everything is on schedule...

Tail Mix ... A Few Little Updates

Christmas on the Streets is only a bit over a week away…  Preparations are going very smoothly (except for my printer giving out right when I needed to print some things off... and some troubles getting in our order from the candy factory).  We’ve actually had to tell El Jordán volunteers to hold off wrapping gifts and bagging the “popped corn” because we need to have things for people from the churches (and our students) who want come and help out...

Yesterday, a lady, Martha, came with 6 teenagers (spending almost 2 hours on bus to get here) to spend the day helping us with  Christmas on the Street  preparations ... They brought a donation – not “large” by American standards – but sacrificial on their part...  For the last couple years, they were recipients of “Christmas on the Streets”...  This year, they’re not only preparing their own meal for outreach in their neighborhood, they came back to help us...  The first year Martha received “Christmas on the Streets”  for a group of extremely poor kids whose parents would leave them alone all day because they had to work...   She was a new Christian who felt compelled to serve and reach others for the Lord in spite of attending a “more established” church where the norm was to “sit” and be comfortable...

Catch Up Updates from Bolivia

Later today I am travelling to New Jersey!!!  A supporting church there invited us to their mission’s conference...  For a while the trip was up in the air because of our little lemon acting up... but the doctor (and second opinion) both think that I am “fit to travel” as long as I’m careful and don’t lift my bags... I picked up my renewed passport just this week... but Keiden’s paperwork which was submitted in July isn’t back yet...

I’m travelling alone this time because:

· paperwork not complete for the “boys”

· it’ll be easier for me to “take it easy” without Keiden being clingy with so many changes - and me not being able to pick him up...

· the workshops aren’t done yet and Marco really needs to be here right now...

· between several weeks bed/couch rest and being down to one vehicle between us  (Marco’s pickup is STILL in the shop – its now 3 weeks longer than originally promised.) everything got pushed back and we just weren’t ready for all of us to travel...

From Within and Without

For two nights in a row, Marco has been called out to the boys’ workshops because of suspicious guys hanging around the shops...  The other night when the door of the storage room had been broken into with a crowbar, nothing had been stolen, nor was anyone found inside when Marco came back with a couple police men...  In the last two weeks, Marco and the foreman have been noticing things going missing inside – a bag of cement, a metal rod here and there...  Things like this are from an inside thief... There are a couple suspects... but no proof...   SO... we’re dealing with “long hands” (thieves...) from within and without...

One of the suspects is the guy that was filling in as caretaker/night watch when the regular guy went home to the country for the weekend...  (he also offered to paint after hours... hmmm...)  The regular guy had some business to take care of – and won’t be back until this Monday...
