"God hasn't forgotten me..."

...so little time ... so much to say ...

So... we’ll try and do this concisely (??? Is this really Corina writing ???)

VISITORS...

·    Chantelle is here from September to June to help with the kids’ floor  and fill other gaps at El Jordan... Both Chantelle’s great-grandparents and grandparents supported this ministry over many years... and now she has the chance to be involved directly...

·    Uncle Norman & Nancy, Friends Alejandro and Susie, Cousin Stephanie... came in October to cook 140 roasts for  Christmas on the Streets, cook for rehab centers, kids’ homes, a wedding and more...

·    Heidi’s mom and dad came for a couple weeks... we put them to work cooking for our Pastor’s breakfast and much more!

·    Bob... a visit from our mission office...  We are so thankful for the mission offices... that serve us... and make our lives much simpler by taking care of details!

·    Medin... (and Joyce, her mom) came to bake THOUSANDS of cookies... so that El Jordan could give away special cookie plates to thank everyone locally who has supported and encouraged us during the year...  (If you only lived a bit closer we would’ve given you a plate too!)

·    A faithful supporter over many years, Henry Fehr, was in Bolivia on another mission’s trip but we were able to cross paths again after 11 years!

·    Rachel gave us 3 weeks of her travels around the world to help us in the busiest time of the year – finishing up our classes... getting ready for Christmas on the Streets...  She’s a great organizer... and we appreciated her!

·    My mom and dad are here now... until after Christmas... they’ve helped in so many ways – including helping wrap 5,000 gifts for Christmas on the Streets, teaching formally and informally, and helping us with Keiden so we can get more things done for Christmas...

·    Marco’s parents were supposed to come as well... but because of health their visit was postponed until possibly January...

Your Prayers Do Make a Difference!

We had a great speaker every Wednesday evening in July for 9 couples from El Jordan.  It was neat to see the nine who started, finish (with the exception of one man).  The speaker dealt with handling finances, resolving conflict, addictions and abuse/mistreatment in a relationship.   The girls are regulars at El Jordan – but at least 7 of the nine men still have problems with addictions.  As each week went by, they asked more questions and opened up more about the realities they lived.  When I walked in at the very end to present a Bible to each couple, tears came to my eyes...  Nine couples – all with their heads bowed, different ones earnestly praying for their families...  It was beautiful...

Their lives and relationships are complicated to say the least – their families won’t change overnight – but what I do know is that they showed interest in learning... and God’s word was planted in their hearts... and it won’t return void!  Since then, several have mentioned their husbands reading the Bible they were given...

Shivering and Syncretism

What does shivering and syncretism have to do with each other?  ...well... not much... they’re just things I wanted to tell you about...

Winter has struck... the temperature has dropped to about 7 or 8 degrees Celsius...(this is now Sunday, and it went down to 3 degrees Celsius this morning! This is the coldest it has been for years...) and to top it off, there has been a constant drizzle for the last couple days...  We don’t get sub-zero temperatures here but when there is such a drastic change in temperature, you’re damp, there is no heating in houses and you have to wait longer (in a cold drizzle) for the bus - its not long until you’re chilled to the bone... and you feel like you can never get warm.

The Shirt That's Too Small

Have you ever felt that your shirt is just a little too tight (it must have shrunk in the wash!!!)... Its not comfortable anymore and you need to move up one size... I’ve felt that way since after Keiden was born... things just don’t fit quite as good as they used to before...

But this isn’t an e-mail to talk about the size of my clothes, its about El Jordan...  Several times during my 15 (!!!!) years here I’ve felt the same way...  When God led me to work with street kids, I started out getting to know, visiting and gaining the trust of the kids on the streets.  I thoroughly enjoyed those years of having only one key in pocket, the streets - my “office”, and the people - my schedule.
