A SHORT Update!

Hi there everyone…

I just wanted to write a very quick note to give you a small update on a few things…

1.      I’m now the only ME in Bolivia!  Yeah!!!!  After about half a dozen visits to the Identification place, the other “me” was erased… and before I knew what was happening,   (with Marlee pulling at the cords of their computers and Keiden picking up all the stray staples on the floor), they took my pictures, finger prints for my ID card (others were signing up for their pictures etc for the end of March!!!) Thank you God!!! I was in such shock I didn’t even ask to look at the information to see if it was right… and they say by Wednesday or Thursday I should be able to pick up my ID card… (others have to wait 2 weeks!) Please pray that everything will be correct… and I’ll be able to get all the other pending paperwork done quickly…

Date Night ... 60 Years Later and a Few Other Stories

DATE NIGHT…

The kids were at home with “Auntie Heidi”… and Marco and I had a “date night”…  still and quiet… away from the house where there aren’t even dishes to be washed or other half-done tasks to be completed…    Very nice…  It’s the first time we’ve both been away from the kids…  The room cost more than double than what the hotel room did for our honeymoon!!!

…and then the nurse came in to change Marco’s IV fluids…

…so much for the date night…

Yes… in the end Marco got his gallbladder operated on…  almost two weeks ago now… He had two quite large stones… and at the same time, he had a keloid removed – a weird growing scar (the doctor called it a benign tumor) that was causing him a lot of discomfort…  A skin graft was required… so he is still all bandaged up and he needs to be careful for about a month…

Have you ever been were the sun doesn’t shine? It’s dark… damp… and gloomy…

On Thursday, I went to where the sun never shines…

For the last couple years, we devoted  (without much success) the month of November to bringing in new students… This month we’re going to the streets once a week to invite girls to come to classes on Fridays…  On Thursday, Nelly (an El Jordán student, made 4 banana cakes to share with her friends on the streets), Gladys (our volunteer whose physical handicaps don’t get in the way of her huge heart…), Wilma (who came along to hold Marlee) and I went to the streets…

Mom, Sister, Daugher, Friend

Our dear hermana Laura always told me ... “You are my mom, my sister, my daughter and my friend...”

She couldn’t talk about El Jordan without tears coming to her eyes...she loved El Jordan –the family of volunteers and the girls that needed her love,  patience and gentle touch... She always said... “El Jordán is my home...El  Jordan is my  family...”

She grew up without knowing love from her mom (she died when Laura was a small child...) Her childhood was overrun with painful experiences ... At 15,  she was married into a loveless relationship...
