Our dear hermana Laura always told me ... “You are my mom, my sister, my daughter and my friend...”
She couldn’t talk about El Jordan without tears coming to her eyes...she loved El Jordan –the family of volunteers and the girls that needed her love, patience and gentle touch... She always said... “El Jordán is my home...El Jordan is my family...”
She grew up without knowing love from her mom (she died when Laura was a small child...) Her childhood was overrun with painful experiences ... At 15, she was married into a loveless relationship...
Through more painful experiences, she was drawn to the Lord about 10 years ago...
At church, she heard about El Jordan...but she was told that not just ”anyone” could be a volunteer...
and it was if it was an elite group that she couldn’t be a part of...
...but God put on her heart the desire to be a part of El Jordan...and she didn’t wait for someone to bring her...she just came...
...and we are so thankful!!!!
We shared some wonderful years with Laura...and as much as she loved El Jordan, we loved her!!
We had a plaque made up to honor her in a special way at our graduation on October 24th...but exactly a week before grad, Laura was admitted to the hospital again...
It was a very touching moment at our grad...Laura’s daughter and granddaughter (the one who disappeared...and returned a couple weeks ago in answer to many, many prayers...)
Laura had bought all of the girls who graduated a small gift... she wanted with all of her heart to be at the grad...but it wasn’t meant to be... By grad, Laura was in intensive care...
She passed away last night... We are happy she no longer has to struggle to breathe...she is complete...and without any pain...
She is experiencing the fullness of JOY, LOVE and LIFE...
We couldn’t wish anything different for her... but we will miss her...
She will leave a hole in El Jordan...but she even thought of that...
Almost exactly a year ago, Laura brought a friend, another lady from her church, to El Jordan...when I phoned Gladys last night to let her know about Laura’s passing away, she told me that Laura would always tell her... ”Don’t ever leave El Jordan...they need you...”
Now Gladys loves El Jordan...and we love her...
Please pray for Laura’s family...the majority of them aren’t Christians...
Pray especially for Alejandra, the granddaughter, who is feeling
guilty for having caused her grandma so much worry...
I encouraged our girls at El Jordan to follow in Laura’s footsteps...
that she was an example worthy of being followed...
like the apostle Paul said... ”Imitate me.. as I imitate Christ...”
Could people say the same thing about my own life?
...about yours?
Let’s strive to “live our life – worthy of the gospel...”
Thank you God... for the gift of Laura to my life...and El Jordan...
