Shivering and Syncretism

What does shivering and syncretism have to do with each other?  ...well... not much... they’re just things I wanted to tell you about...

Winter has struck... the temperature has dropped to about 7 or 8 degrees Celsius...(this is now Sunday, and it went down to 3 degrees Celsius this morning! This is the coldest it has been for years...) and to top it off, there has been a constant drizzle for the last couple days...  We don’t get sub-zero temperatures here but when there is such a drastic change in temperature, you’re damp, there is no heating in houses and you have to wait longer (in a cold drizzle) for the bus - its not long until you’re chilled to the bone... and you feel like you can never get warm.

The Shirt That's Too Small

Have you ever felt that your shirt is just a little too tight (it must have shrunk in the wash!!!)... Its not comfortable anymore and you need to move up one size... I’ve felt that way since after Keiden was born... things just don’t fit quite as good as they used to before...

But this isn’t an e-mail to talk about the size of my clothes, its about El Jordan...  Several times during my 15 (!!!!) years here I’ve felt the same way...  When God led me to work with street kids, I started out getting to know, visiting and gaining the trust of the kids on the streets.  I thoroughly enjoyed those years of having only one key in pocket, the streets - my “office”, and the people - my schedule.

Just one minute ... it can make a difference!!

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street. Lamentations 2:19 NIV

Could you give just one minute this weekend to “lift up your hands to God for the lives of children at risk”?  The“World Wide Weekend of Prayer for Children at Risk” was started by the Viva Network back in 1995... Last year over 2 million people took time to be sensitive to this issue that is so close to God’s heart...  Christ showed his heart several times for children while needy, hungry, poor people were chosen repeatedly as a theme in the Bible.  So... put the two together... children - at risk – and you’ve found something undoubtedly important to God.

Gardenia brought 9 year old Joel to El Jordán, in hopes that we could get him into a kids home to “solve” his many problem... God once again showed me a glimpse of his marvellous grace for children at risk... but before I tell you more about Joel, I’ve copied some information from the Viva Network’s webpage so maybe we can join them in their effort to come together before God to intercede for our world’s needy “little ones”...

Reflections for Mother's Day

Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us... and El Jordan... I’ve noticed some changes in attitudes and things seem to be improving somewhat... please continue to pray for wisdom... and the right words to say at the right time!!!  Thanks so much...

Since yesterday was Mother’s Day... (I got to enjoy my mom being here!) I thought I’d talk a bit about mothers...

God gave me a soft heart for people in need... especially towards any one in a tough, miserable situation... but now that I’m a mom, there is an extra special spot in my heart when those circumstances include a mom or children...
