At El Jordan, there never seems to be many just plain boring days… Today was a mixture of all sorts of feelings…
For the past year or so we´ve battled with our fridges at El Jordan… Some of them are 15 years old, and just don´t work like they used to… One doesn´t work at all, two others (in volunteers´ apartments) work when they want to, and our main kitchen fridge works at half speed… Some have seen half a dozen technicians… others just one or two… This Sunday we have our open house – where we invite churches and friends to come and buy things that our students´ have made… and we NEED fridges that work!

We had money for one fridge… and thought this was a good time to spend it… You should have seen our volunteers’ faces when we said we were going to get a new fridge… Today when it was delivered, there were squeals, smiles and literal jumping up and down… They were like kids with a new puppy… (excitement!)
Unfortunately, this morning we found out that our main (half speed) fridge had quit… sigh… What we wanted was two working fridges for our expo (frustration!)
I had to do paperwork which for me, at the best of times is frustrating… This morning, I only had to talk with 4 people to find out that I have to go to two other places to get OTHER documents, before they can give me what El Jordan really needs… (a little frustration!)
The kids at El Jordan today each got a bit of money to buy something at the market to make up a grocery basket for a family in need… They shared their gifts and met little Joelito (who we looked for the g-tube for back in July…) and his family… (Good!!!!)
In my Bible Study this afternoon, one of my girls was able to read and comprehend the passage we were reading… (wonderful!) She cried with a mixture of yearning yet weakness to put the Word of God into practice in her daily life…
In our time for prayer requests there were physical needs, kids struggling in school, husbands who had come home drunk - yet again … (sad!)
At the end of class there were two sad, bad pieces of news… The father of 5 of our little kids who used to come to El Jordan with their mom was sent to jail today for homicide… they think he will get a 30 year sentence… The mom has been separated from him for about a year… and only has the youngest in her care… The other four (ranging from 3 to 9?) are being uprooted from their already very unstable and unhealthy living situation… (so sad!)
…and to top it all off, one of our teenagers (13 years old) whose mom used to be our student (and whose older sister comes to El Jordan as well) was picked up by the police this afternoon… We are praying that this situation might be the wakeup call for the mom, as she hasn´t wanted to listen to any advice from us… Our hope is that this will bring her back to the spot of looking for GOD…
…and those were just SOME of the emotions from today…
Thank you for supporting us with your prayers and encouragement…
