Today was another milestone for our family… both Keiden and Marlee are in school… third grade and kindergarten… Wow… it’s hard to believe… They are in a school (Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center) run by South American Mission… We appreciate the opportunity they have to go to a school where they have teachers that love God and want to encourage their students towards a growing relationship with Christ… Pray for the school… that God would protect them and provide all of their needs… For us, this privilege comes with the challenge of a lot of driving… especially since Marlee only goes half days…
A very quick update on a few people you were praying for:
Little Kevin Marco who was born with a cleft lip has already been to see the doctors from “Operation Smile”! There is a possibility that he will be operated on in October… but it will most likely be in the following set of operations whenever that is ... Another answer to prayer is that Matilde shows a real love for her precious little one… and a desire to care and provide for him ... Pray for Matilde as she goes with her little baby to “watch cars” (making sure no one steals anything from your car when it is parked) and to wash clothes (for other people ...) ... She has had some health concerns related to her cesarean…
Little Leyla… is doing well ... She is back home from the hospital again ... and her mom and dad are learning to take care of her health concerns ...
It seems like when it rains, it pours… We had ANOTHER baby, just days old, brought to El Jordan by one of our newer students, Heidy… The baby had been abandoned by her young mom and the grandma, who is from 8 hours away and has small children of her own, didn´t know what to do… she didn´t have clothes… formula… diapers… So… Heidy brought them to El Jordan… so we could pray for the grandma… tell her about Christ… and help her… The girls in my Bible Study class at El Jordán on their own initiative took up an offering to help… These are struggling moms themselves… but they gave from their almost empty pockets to help someone who was even more needy… Oh… so many times, the girls teach and remind me about mercy and generosity… strength and courage… Another of the girls (also named Heidy) took the grandma and baby home because they had nowhere to go… Both of these Heidys are in the El Jordan video that Heidi Gladman showed in churches when she was back in Canada.
Please take the time to watch it… and share it with others who might want to get to know El Jordan a bit better.
A continuation of the “when it rains, it pours”… came in a bigger package… 37 year old Jose, on the streets for at least 15 years, was brought to us by another street “kid” I´ve known for 20 years… His jaw was broken in three places… a doctor had offered to fix it for $600 US… but in three weeks, selling gum and washing windshields, Jose was only able to save up $80… How can you pat them on the back, say “God loves you?” and send them on their way? Our volunteer dentists found a surgeon who only charged the materials he used in the surgery… some of our girls (the four who were most involved in our Christmas in July) cooked a meal… some church people bought it… and in other amazing ways, God provided…
Another way God provided in these last couple days: our last working washing machine (almost 18 years old) quit forever a while back… Buying another one was out of the question… On Sunday when we had the meal to raise money for Jose´s operation, I felt a twinge of guilt because our own need for a washing machine still wasn´t covered… On Monday, I was handed the cash for a new washer!!! A family in Canada decided, “Whatever extra money comes in this month, we are going to use it to help El Jordán.” Can you guess how much extra money came in that month? Yes… exactly what we need to buy a heavy duty washing machine!!!
…so… praise God with us… and continue to pray for us… This month at El Jordan we´ve been having special “meetings” talking about Dysfunctional Families… and Raising Kids… Last night we had over 50 adults… some dads who don´t usually come… and some parents of the boys at the workshops… We have two more Wednesday nights to go… please pray that hearts of stone will be changed to hearts of flesh… that we will see miracles in our families… especially in the dads…
THANK YOU!!!
…and have a great day!
He IS Faithful…
