Unbelievable…

I wrote the other day about Tania urgently needing an operation on her fractured jaw… and the piece of bone or whatever was causing her pain and infection… The urgency came from the danger of the infection spreading…  Even with the surgeon operating for free, I was told it might be close to $1000 by the time we paid for a clinic, anesthesiologist, the plates for the fracture, medicines etc…

The surgeon knows a night time talk show host (Enrique) who always gives space for a couple needy people to publicly make their plea for help…  There are so many desperately needy people who want to be on his program, there is no guarantee you will be chosen… Enrique happened to have an appointment at the surgeon’s on Wednesday, so the surgeon suggested making the connection there…

Well… Enrique cancelled his appointment so we were back at square one…

…or so we thought..

The surgeon decided to take a closer at Tania and her x-ray…

He believes the fracture is on its way to healing… and doesn’t need the plates and surgery like he originally thought…  However, the foreign object needed to be removed… (cheaper for us!)  Antibiotics were also doing their job… and Tania could open her mouth a bit wider – allowing the doctor to use local anesthetic instead of general… (cheaper for us!) God must have touched the hearts of the surgeon and his staff… because they said Tania could be operated on at their clinic….  (for free!) and they would only charge whatever supplies they used!!!!

The operation was set for the following day at 11 a.m.… (Thursday)  I just about wore the patio down with my pacing because Tania had had problems at home and didn’t get to El Jordan until close to 11:30…  Fortunately the doctor was running a bit behind… and was still able to tend to her…

Now for the “unbelievable”…  Can anyone guess what the foreign object beside her fractured jaw was? Try and guess…

It’s been there for close to 20 years…

It happened on the streets…

It is shaped like a triangle… (about an inch long, maybe a centimeter wide at the top, narrowing down to a point…)

You probably have lots in your house… but they are usually rectangle…

It is see-through….

When Tania’s boyfriend hit her and fractured her jaw a month ago, it jarred this object out of its resting place… and that’s when it started to cause Tania a lot of pain…

The doctor took pictures because he had never seen this before…

It was a piece of glass!!!!!!!

When Tania hadn’t been on the streets for very long, she had a fight with another girl – who “stuck her” in the side of her face with a piece of glass… It apparently didn’t leave that big of an opening… and a “sister” (someone who was helping the street kids at the time) did a bit of first aid and that was the end of it… When the doctor asked Tania if she had ever been hit with glass on that side of the face… she said no… she had only been hit by the end of a policeman’s stick…  “and so and so hit me with a broken bottle” she said, as she pointed out those scars…  but at the front of her face…

If you look closely, there is an insignificant little scar on the side of her face where the glass must have gone in… At the time, Tania’s life was so disorderly and addiction-controlled that she must have never noticed that there was a big hunk of glass in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable… but true…

The price of her surgery… $22 US… with another $10 for Tania’s bus fares and food for her kids!!!!!!!!!!   (We also need to buy her the rest of her antibiotics she needs…)

Unbelievable…

The surgeon has told us if we ever need his services he would be happy to help us in the same way!

Thank you God…

For everyone who gave towards Tania’s surgery… thank you... Would it be okay for us to put some of that into a general medical fund for other emergencies?  We’d also use some for materials so she can make the crafts she’s learned at El Jordan and work towards more stability… we’d appreciate it… Thank you so very much for your generosity…

Tania brought the piece of glass to show me later…  Crazy…

Unbelievable!

Thanks for all of your prayers… They were answered!!  Continue to pray for Janet – who is still waiting for the results of her biopsy to know if her tumor is cancerous and what her next step is…

Have a great day…
